What to Expect From an Alpaca Experience at Rhyndaston Alpacas
There are plenty of places you can go for a day out. What makes an alpaca experience different is the pace.
Time slows a little. Conversations soften. You start noticing small things — the way a cria stumbles after its mother, the gentle humming that passes between the herd, the way an alpaca tilts its head when it’s curious.
Visiting Rhyndaston Alpacas for an alpaca experience isn’t about rushing from one activity to the next. It’s about spending unhurried time with animals that are naturally calm and quietly engaging.
We keep our groups small so there’s space to ask questions, take your time, and genuinely connect with the alpacas. Nothing feels crowded or hurried. Each visit finds its own rhythm.
Meeting the Herd
When you arrive, we’ll introduce you to the alpacas and explain a little about how they communicate and interact. Some are confident and inquisitive. Others prefer to hang back and observe. A few are quietly cheeky.
You’ll learn how to approach them calmly, what their body language means, and how herd dynamics work in practice — not just in theory.
Walks at Your Pace
Our walks are gentle and shaped around the group. Some visitors prefer a shorter, steady stroll with plenty of pauses. Others enjoy a slightly longer wander through the fields.
The ground can be uneven in places, as you’d expect on a working farm, so sturdy footwear is important. If you’re unsure whether a walk would suit you, we’re always happy to talk it through beforehand.
Meet & Greets and Hand Feeding
During meet and greet sessions, you’ll usually have the opportunity to hand feed the alpacas. We provide feed for you to offer either in a small plastic scoop or directly from your hand — whichever feels most comfortable.
It’s often a highlight for visitors. There’s something surprisingly grounding about standing quietly while an alpaca leans forward with focused curiosity. It’s gentle, not chaotic, and usually followed by a soft hum of approval.
Quiet Moments Matter
Some of the most memorable parts of a visit aren’t the obvious ones. It might be noticing how the herd settles together. Or hearing the low humming that moves through them. Or simply realising you’ve stopped checking your phone — and if it is still in your hand, you’re probably trying to capture the funniest selfie.
Spending time with alpacas encourages you to observe rather than rush. That’s something we value here.
Preparing for Your Visit
Dress for the weather and come ready for fresh air. The rest we’ll take care of.
No prior experience with alpacas is needed. We’ll guide you throughout, so you feel relaxed and comfortable around the herd from the start.
